Car, Van & Motorcycle MOT – What Is Checked<\/span><\/span><\/h2>

A full Vehicle MOT testing centre centre, we carry out MOTs on Class 4 (cars and mobile homes), Class 7 (vans, up to 3500kg gross weight). Every 12 months, if a car is 3 years old or over, it rquires an MOT and many of our customers arrange to have their cars serviced at the same time virtual, killing two birds with one stone. We are a MOT testing centre and all our tester are approved bi the government agency VOSA. They will examine:<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>

These components are inspected<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  • Body \/ vehicle structure \/ general items: free from excessive corrosion or damage in specific\u00a0areas. No sharp edges likely to cause injury.<\/li>\n
  • Towbars for security \/ condition \/ inappropriate repairs or modification: correct operation of\u00a013 pin electrical socket. Speedometer condition and operation. Engine mountings.<\/li>\n
  • Fuel system: no leaks. Security and condition of pipes \/ hoses. Fuel cap fastens and seals\u00a0securely. Note: the fuel cap will need to be opened. Make sure the key is available.<\/li>\n
  • Exhaust emissions: vehicle meets the requirements for exhaust emissions, dependent on\u00a0the age and fuel type of the vehicle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
      \n
    • Exhaust system: secure. Complete. Catalyst missing where one was fitted as standard.\u00a0Without serious leaks and is not too noisy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
        \n
      • Seat belts: all the seat belts fitted are checked for type, condition, operation and security.<\/li>\n
      • All\u00a0mandatory seat belts must be in place.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
          \n
        • Check of the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) for air bags and seat belt pre tensioners and\u00a0load limiters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
            \n
          • Seats: Drivers seat for adjustment. All seats for security and seat backs can be secured in\u00a0the upright position.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
              \n
            • Doors: Latch securely in closed position. Front doors should open from inside and outside\u00a0the vehicle. Rear doors should open from outside the vehicle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                \n
              • Mirrors: minimum number required, condition and security. Indirect vision devices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                  \n
                • Load security: boot or tailgate can be secured in the closed position.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                    \n
                  • Brakes: condition including inappropriate repairs or modifications, operation and\u00a0performance (efficiency test). Note the removal of the road wheels and trims are not part of\u00a0the test. \u00a0Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) where fitted.Check of the dashboard Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) for ABS, ESC, electronic park\u00a0brake and brake fluid warning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                      \n
                    • Tyres and wheels: condition, security, tyre size\/type and tread depth. Spare wheels and\u00a0tyres are not inspected. Note: vehicles first used on or after 1 January 2012 \u2013 check of the\u00a0MIL for \u00a0 Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                        \n
                      • Registration plates: condition, security, colour, characters correctly formed and spaced.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                          \n
                        • Lights: condition, operation including High Intensity Discharge (HID) and Light<\/li>\n
                        • Emitting\u00a0Diode (LED) headlamps for cleaning, self leveling and security. Headlamp aim.<\/li>\n
                        • Main beam\u00a0warning \u00a0light.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                            \n
                          • Bonnet: securely latches in the closed position.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                              \n
                            • Wipers\/washers: operate to give the driver a clear view ahead.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                                \n
                              • Windscreen: condition and driver\u2019s view of the road.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                                  \n
                                • Horn: correct operation and of suitable type.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                                    \n
                                  • Steering and suspension: condition, steering oil level, operation, a check for inappropriate\u00a0repairs or modification including corrosion to power steering pipes or hoses. Operation of\u00a0steering lock mechanism. Check of the MIL for electronic power steering and steering lock.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                                      \n
                                    • Vehicle identification number: present on vehicles first used on or after 1 August 1980. Asingle VIN is displayed except on multistage build vehicles. (eg van conversion, BMW\/Alpina etc)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                                        \n
                                      • Electrical: visible electrical wiring and battery.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                                        \nIf Your vehicle has failed the MOT, we do offer a free re-test within 10 days of your\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>first test.
